We have spent a lot of time on new features, but in some case the documentation was not updated in-line with them. Now we have updated the OrthoGraph Architect User's Guide with a very new section: learn OrthoGraph step by step.

We think that this section might be the most important as it not just drives you through an initial process of creating a floor-plan, but also describes the major differences between OrthoGraph Architect and average CAD programs.

ArchiCAD Import Module user's guide is released

As requested by many of you we have released the user's guide describing OrthoGraph ArchiCAD Import Module. It is very simple to import drawings from the iPad through Dropbox, but now it is also documented how to proceed with the files. As a result the 3D BIM model is supporting the further work.

OrthoGraph ArchiCAD Import Module SE is launched

We got many feedbacks from our users who want to use the OrthoGraph drawings in ArchiCAD, and many of them does not do regular building surveys, only once-twice a year. They mostly measure family houses, apartments and small-mid size objects.

Now we have created a dedicated construction for them, from now on the OrthoGraph-ArchiCAD conversion module is available close at hand on an acceptable price range:

The SE doesn't mean reduced functionality but only a limitation on the number of rooms to handle in one file. This version is able to read up to 50 rooms per drawing file, that is enough comfortable for most of such building survey activities.

The easiest way of creating a floor plan or a 3D BIM model electronically on-site is to use OrthoGraph Architect running on an iPad. As a result drawings can be exported to Google SketchUp or ArchiCAD, but in case of ArchiCAD a full intelligent 3D BIM model is created, not just polygons or 3D bodies.

OrthoGraph Architect 2.0 has been released

We have spent a lot of work developing the new version of OrthoGraph Architect. As a result many new features are now available besides a large amount of bug repairs too:

Handling of multiple projects, with easy multi tasking capabilities.
Physical structure elements are typified like buildings, floors, etc.
Parametrizable physical structure elements as well as all graphical elements have properties allowing users to specify item types.
Enhanced graphical survey functionality -> joined rooms move together easier.
3D leveling is available to plan the walls, objects to be a part of the 3D model.
Wall height can be set per wall bases (and also can be inherited from the containing room).
Dropbox export has been enhanced to include the new 3D information too.
Photos made with your iPad can also be attached to any graphical elements.
The floor plan can be directly exported in JPG and PNG formats (with fixed resolution) to Dropbox.
Many bug repairs and minor improvements.

Free OrthoGraph CAD Connectivity is available

Two very interesting news about OrthoGraph Architect's CAD connectivity:

OrthoGraph ArchiCAD Import Module has been fully released. You can try and download it from OrthoGraph's website.
The first free CAD connection has been released - in beta yet - for allowing OrthoGraph Architect users to save their on-site made floor plans into Google SketchUp's file format: .skp. You can download it from Download OrthoGraph Google SketchUp Converter page, or read more about it at the Read more about OrthoGraph Google SketchUp Connectivity.

The Google SketchUp converter software is a stand alone Windows application that installs it into the Start menu of Windows. Its use is very simple (it has only two buttons):

Click the "Google SketchUp Conversion" button
Select the .srvd file that you have created using the iPad application - and transfered to your PC using DropBox
Choose a destination file
And you are done. When the conversion is ready, a notification dialog informs you about it.

OrthoGraph Architect for iPad users manual is available

OrthoGraph ArchiCAD Import Module has been unleashed

Many of our users have asked and we listened. The beta version of OrthoGraph ArchiCAD Import Module has just been released, a dedicated application for extending ArchiCAD to read OrthoGraph Architect's native ".srvd" file format.

The current beta version supports the conversions of up to 5 rooms with full functionality from drawings made using the iPad version of OrthoGraph. This limitation can be turned off in the final release by purchasing a licence for the fraction of the price of OrthoGraph Survey, for about €400/$500.

For those users, who don't need this professional unlimited functionality the 5 rooms limit and the merge function of ArchiCAD is also supported to do their measures step by step for an unlimited time.

ArchiCAD Renovation Webinar Success

Nyiregyhazi College Case Study Published

GIM International, a leading geomatics and land surveying magazine, based in the Netherlands, has just released a case study on an OrthoGraph utilized surveying project. Collectively with the surveyor, Peter Devescovi, OrthoGraph has written an article describing one of their biggest projects to date; the survey of the Nyiregyhazi College in Eastern Hungary. Featured in the March issue, this article will give you a more detailed look into exactly how an on-site survey is conducted with OrthoGraph, and how it can be tied into the BIM (Building Information Model) and inventory register processes. This 780 sq. meter office building was surveyed in just one week with one surveyor using OrthoGraph Survey and a Leica distance meter. ArchiCAD Import Add-On is available

We are not just creating 2D floor-plans, but from now on we are creating 3D BIM models as well.

OrthoGraph products were always capable of managing intelligent object libraries and building parts. It became a clear need to have integration to BIM AEC software that have more just than a 2D or 3D drawing. As the BIM concept is originated from Graphisoft, the inventor of ArchiCAD, we decided to build up integration to it before any other BIM software.

As a result please feel free to download and use our new ArchiCAD integration module, the OrthoGraph Import .APX Add-On of ArchiCAD. This new feature allows mapping the OrthoGraph objects with ArchiCAD library parts, copies the parameters having the same name within the two systems, and creates a floor-plan having doors, windows within walls. New Native Google SketchUp output from OrthoGraph

We like easy to use solutions, so we provide another. There was a way of transferring the measured drawings from OrthoGraph to Google SketchUp using the DWG file format, but there could be even more brought out from the same work.

We are going to introduce a new native way of Goole SketchUp file export that has many new features, let list some:

Transparent windows in walls transferring the measured drawing looking like a real 3D picture of the measured room

grouped walls and floors that allow users to measure surfaces in Google SketchUp with just one click

the same one-click method applies to using floorings or colored/tile-imaged paintings

OrthoGraph Survey/Architect PDA trial version - without a PDA

You can try out the OrthoGraph Survey PDA software also without having a PDA. In this case the software can be tried using the Microsoft© Pocket PC Emultor software in normal Windows desktop environment. Using this emulator the software runs as it would run on a real PDA on the screen.

New: OrthoGraph Survey supports 3D DWG graphic export

The OrthoGraph DWG export functionality has been enriched with 3D DWG export capability. From now on our users are able to easily create a 3D DWG model from a floor-plan surveyed using OrthoGraph Survey. The only thing what is required is to fill out the "Height" field for all rooms. Later on the generated DWG export file will contain this extra information as well, which is required for 3D modeling.

In most cases a conventional floor-plan is enough to be created during the survey, but many times the goal is to make a 3D model. With the brand new feature of OrthoGraph Survey the way to the 3D drawing is one step shorter than before.

During the survey it is easy to set the internal height of the actual story, and this will be inherited to all containing rooms (and can be overridden case-by-case if necessary).

The height information can also be set for any kind of wall openings or objects. Of course for eliminating the recurring tasks and accelerating the survey, default values can be used as well. Even if the height data is not specified during the site work, using default values you can have your useful 3D DWG drawing without any extra work. Use your survey in Google SketchUp, AutoCAD, or any other CAD system, the designing and processing tasks will be easier and more impressive.

New Excel Export functionality in OrthoGraph Inventory

There is a new Excel export functionality available from the OrthoGraph Inventory system. The new inventory sheet is well usable both for external system integration, and also for fast data evaluation purposes during the inventory creation process.

The existing XML output is further supported, but as it typically needs further development knowledge, the new XLS output is readable for everybody containing all measured information.

New: imperial units in OrthoGraph

From now on it doesn't matter in which units you want to edit and handle distances in your drawings, OrthoGraph supports it!

You can use foot, inch in many formats besides the already existing meter, but also millimeter and centimeter are supported. When you start OrthoGraph Survey on your PDA, in the settings menu you can easily choose the preferred input and display format from various choices. There are also some presets, but you can customize it as you wish.

New: fast survey feature is available

As a result of many user requests a new feature was developed into the OrthoGraph Survey graphical measurement functionality. This feature let users to make the floor plan measurements much faster than before, if the exact measurement is not a requirement.

Fast survey feature in details

The new feature allows users to measure the particular room with the least measurement steps keeping the drawn angles unmodified. E.g. in a square room it is enough to do 2 wall measurements and nothing else. So that the room will be resized to the valid sizes and the wall angles will be kept as before.

For architects, building evaluation etc. this feature is very useful, because the on-site activities are further reduced, and the result is the same electronic graphical output as before. In some cases for an architect it can be more useful to have a drawing with 90 degrees angles and almost exact measures than to have very precise measurements but some 90.1 degrees angles in the drawing.

For those users, who need the exact drawings the system continues to support also the previous exact automatic measurement functionality, so that everyone can decide which detailed measurement is required for the particular use.

OrthoGraph V1.0.1049 was released

On the 10th March 2008 the 1049 build of first OrthoGraph version was released. The new release contains both bug repairs and new features that were developed based on the responses coming back from our users.

The list of new features is as:

There is a new Undo/Redo functionality implemented in the PDA component that support now up to 50 steps back and forth.

From now on the Users Manual of the software can be found also in the Start Menu, and not only in the help of OrthoGraph ProjectManager software.

At object insertion if the user didn't select an object type yet, then the system automatically brings up the Object Type Selection window.

There are new progress bars embedded into some slower functions, so that the users can follow up the calculation

From now on the Automatic Update functionality also involves the PDA component for checking and updating, not only the OrthoGraph ProjectManager component.

There are further improvements implemented in window handling functionality.

The transformation of drawing was improved during measurements. From now on it is easier as before to follow up the transformations of floor-plan till the readily measured room stands forth of us.
