OrthoGraph versions explained

OrthoGraph versions explained

19th June 2015

At OrthoGraph we have recently reshaped our product portfolio to better serve our clients, and this means significant changes in the available products and services. Let us shortly introduce you to the exciting new members of the OrthoGraph family.

Let us start with the good news :) OrthoGraph Floorplan is an update for OrthoGraph Architect, therefore it is free to download and install to anyone who has purchased the old versionApple's policy gives a clear guidance about updates for Appstore software purchases, namely that purchasing an app from the AppStore gives you right to download and install any updates without any additional payment and this applies on this situation, too. Please find here a video where we explain how to download OrthoGraph Floorplan to your iPad.

If you didn't purchase OrthoGraph yet, you can buy it through OrthoGraph Cloud in a simple way:

  1. Register at OrthoGraph Cloud site
  2. Log in to your account and purchase or subscribe to the license you wish to use
  3. Download the OrthoGraph Cloud Client from the AppStore (without further charge), and login with your account
You will be able to use all benefits of OrtoGraph both on your iPad and on the cloud as well.

The last app, OrthoGraph Tape Measure is a new application for those who need to record layout information on-site but they do not need a complete floor plan just some details and calculations.

Download OrthoGraph 10.2 right now with the new features.

16 reasons for choosing OrthoGraph

Do you know why OrthoGraph is the most advanced building surveying iPad application on the market? We have 16 competitive advantages that make us stand out. 16 features that are the heart of the application from the intuitive sketch and tap way you draw trough bending walls, Leica and Bosch support to the teamwork functionality.

Watch our short video about these features:

OrthoGraph's 16 key features:

  1. Intelligent sketch recognition - 0:11
  2. Append new rooms with just one simple tap - 0:15
  3. Measure walls and diagonals - 0:22
  4. Leica & Bosch Bluetooth laser distance meter support - 0:41
  5. Curved walls and different wall thicknesses - 0:54
  6. 3D walk through, integral 3D model - 1:20
  7. Doors & windows with properties - welcome to the mobile BIM world - 1:35
  8. Furniture with properties and photos - 1:52
  9. Freehand annotation, labeling and attached photos - 2:10
  10. Location structure & room stamps - 2:17
  11. Professional output formats - supporting AutoCAD, ArchiCAD and all the important players - 2:27
  12. PDF room book with details and renders - 2:33
  13. Background images for digitizing floor plans - 2:42
  14. Cloud storage with versions of the same file - 2:55
  15. Teamwork on the same project - 3:16
  16. 3D VR Model view - 3:54

Creating a wall on the iPad shouldn't be bounded by the same limitations we had on a mouse-controlled environment. OrthoGraph's revolutionary "old" concept goes back to the origins and combines the leading edge technology with the natural way of drawing with pencil and paper. With the sketch & tap functionality and the intelligent sketch recognition the creation of floor plans was never easier and more natural.

Another unique thing is that the software handles curved walls. They cannot be found in every building but if you have to measure one, OrthoGraph is the only application, which can deal with it.

There is no professional floor plan without wall thickness, properties, housing etc., and these are all possible in OrthoGraph.

Digitizing in a natural way: if you have a previously made ground plan about the building then you can use it as a background picture to your drawing, and ease your work with it.

After creating the draft you can immediately measure it. But only measuring wall lengths cannot create real geometrical accuracy. OrthoGraph is still the only iPad app letting you measure diagonals that make the plan 100% accurate and correct. Make the measurement process even easier with the Leica and Bosch laser distance meter support. By using the Bluetooth connection the data transfer is super fast.

After the measurement you can furnish your rooms. Add doors, windows and furniture with properties and photos. OrthoGraph's object library contains 19 different doors, 9 different windows and 46 objects as of today, all resizable to their real dimensions.

The application has a unique location structure that makes it possible to create the location tree with floors, apartments, offices, shops and rooms, and even with zones. This helps handling even large buildings, or building portfolios in the same workspace.

Use the labeling tool to write notes on the floor plan or if you need just signing some parts, then use the freehand annotation function, draw, sketch as normally you would on a paper or simply just shot a picture and attach that. With OrthoGraph you will never leave the site without all important information gathered!

When you are ready with your work, export the files in one of the professional output file formats like IFC, DXF, JPG and use them further in ArchiCAD, AutoCAD or in Solibri Model viewer. You can also export your project as a PDF room book. It will list all your rooms and objects individually with their drawings, and if you wish, include camera renders too.

And last but not least use OrthoGraph Cloud to backup your work with versioning and use the also unexampled teamwork function that allows many people to work in the same floor plan.

Use OrthoGraph and enjoy all these features that make your work easier and faster. Think different and ease your work!

OrthoGraph Cloud Introduced - Try it for free now!

Today a new version of OrthoGraph Architect have been released. Version 8 comes with an awesome new feature supporting two aspects of the professional work.

First of all is the backup and restore function. From this version you can save your projects to the cloud, and if you have Pro or Business subscription (free for the first month during the introduction period) all uploaded states of the projects will be stored automatically. These versions can be retrieved anytime giving you additional safety.

The other great advancement of OrthoGraph Cloud Services is the support of teamwork. As a Pro customer you can share your uploaded projects (even old versions!) with other Pro customers, and then these files can be further developed independently. As a Business customer you get even more: the real collaboration with your colleagues. You can survey the same building the same time with a group of surveyors working on the same project / drawing.

Collaboration means much more than just a simple upload and download procedure. Merge all your work with others' works. This way you can be a part of a large survey task, and at the end all your work can be merged with the result parts made by others. The result when you finish: one integrated project. And all this with versioning!

Business subscription is not just a higher level of cooperation, but it also offers a central user/license management, so you can purchase subscriptions for your colleagues, and give them multi-level permissions to the group of common folders what you create.

As you might be used to it already, OrthoGraph is evolving continuously. The same applies to the Cloud services too, so new features are planned, stay tuned!

Other New features:
- Demo project
- Objects can be hidden from View toolbar (display current room's objects, display all, or hide all)
- Better dimension displaying
- Location visibility can be handled recursively (from now on you can switch the visibility of a whole floor or room-by-room)
- Hotspots have an additional altitude property

(We welcome also your thoughts and wish lists at info@orthograph.net or http://forum.orthograph.net, concerning not only this new functionality but any other feature.)

OrthoGraph Cloud Services - Beta testers are needed!

Another great unique feature of OrthoGraph is in less than a pace from the release. For the first time it is not about enhancing the iPad Application or porting OrthoGraph to another platforms, but we are nearly ready with a feature that gives web connectivity for OrthoGraph Users directly from the App.

OrthoGraph’s Cloud functionality is far more than just storing files on the web. It is to share projects with other OrthoGraph users, to support teamwork, to store the history of any project and if Apple approves our licensing concept, then also to maintain the licensing of teams.

Let’s get into details about OrthoGraph Cloud Services:

  • We already placed an experimental feature into the current version of OrthoGraph Architect, where you can upload up to 3 projects into the cloud, to store (and also restore) them direct from the iPad. The files are already stored on the cloud storage, but it doesn’t do anything more... yet!
  • Through the web access you will be able to organize any projects you have uploaded to OrthoGraph Cloud Services that means you can order them into folders, check their versions uploaded before (also their descriptions), and get a link to the phase you would like to work with, let it be the current or a prior version.
  • The link lets you share you project with other colleagues (using the link they can download the particular project to their device), or even if you would like to start from a prior state, then the link itself is the solution for you.
  • We will provide three subscription levels: Free, Pro and Business. Latter takes a big step forward compared to the others as it supports teamwork. Business users can setup groups of users and can create folders storing projects to share with them. Every group member can restore these projects on their iPads, work and modify them, and if they have right for that, then can merge them back to the master project stored in OrthoGraph Cloud. This way the same group of people can work on the same building doing a really effective and rapid work at one place.
  • In addition to the functional features we want to release a new, subscription based licensing, where the group leaders of Business accounts can subscribe their team to the full featured OrthoGraph version on monthly paid basis. If there is a project that needs more resources, then they can employ anybody having an iPad to join the survey work only paying the subscription fee for the time period it is really required. This licensing construction needs to be approved by Apple yet.

What do we store on our servers? Everything that is related to the project: drawings, all graphical elements and their properties including even the photos attached to them.

If you are interested to the cloud functionality before its release, if you would like to help us with beta testing, then contact us at info@orthograph.net. You can be sure, this is going to be a big step in OrthoGraph’s life.

Experimental feature has been released

new save/restore functions in OrthoGraph
The new release or OrthoGraph Architect contains an experimental feature that lets users backup and restore projects to OrthoGraph Cloud Services. This new service is now available only on experimental level, which means actually our users can register and create their account, login using it, backup and restore up to 3 of their projects. Anything you backed up can not be deleted now, certainly it will be available soon.

OrthoGraph Cloud Services later will have several additional features like project sharing through a dedicated link, teamwork support, different storage packages and many more, but let us go into details only when it is getting to be released. We think that OrthoGraph Cloud features will be available in some weeks (also depending a lot on Apple’s review and approval process), so keep us following.

In the meantime try out the backup/restore feature that is there now, we appreciate all feedbacks about that.

How does it work?
1.     tap the Projects button in the top-right corner of the screen
2.     tap the export button, and a sign-up form comes up (unless you are already signed up an logged in)
3.     fill out the form, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you
4.     open up your e-mail client, and
5.     confirm your account tapping the link inside the confirmation e-mail.
6.     go back into OrthoGraph

When you already signed up/logged in, then you can start your Backup
1.     tap the Projects/backup button again
2.     enter a name for the project
3.     tap the export button

Restore
1.     tap the Projects button in the top-right corner of the screen
2.     tap the Restore button
3.     choose restore from my projects (the other option will let you restore projects saved from other iPads)
4.     select the project you would like to restore
5.     choose whether you would like to restore the project overwriting its current version on your iPad or you can restore it under a new name (this way you have created a new copy of that).

So simple it is.

We look forward to your responses about this new feature.
